The Kaizer Chiefs team pay tribute to ‘Dr. Mnandi’ Siphiwe Mkhonza

  Former Chiefs defender Siphiwe Mkhonza. Photo: X On Tuesday it was sadly confirmed that former Kaizer Chiefs star  Siphiwe Mkhonza  had passed away at the age of 44, after a battle with illness. The defender spent three years at Kaizer Chiefs between 2004 and 2007, featuring in over 40 games. In his first season he formed part of a victorious squad that won the league title in the 2004–05 Premier Soccer League campaign. It was also during this time that he received a call-up to Bafana Bafana, featuring on seven occasions for the national side. Taking to social media platform X, Chiefs posted a RIP message to Mkhonza: “Kaizer Chiefs are deeply saddened to learn of the untimely passing of Siphiwe Mkhonza. “Dr. Mnandi” served the Club with distinction. KAIZER CHIEFS TO APPOINT NEW COACH

T he chairman confirmed a new coach is coming before next season. According to Kaizer Motaung, the process to find the new man started last year. Motaung said introducing a new coach during the season would be disruptive. The former superstar said every new coach requires a pre-season period. “If we bring a new coach now, it will cause a lot of confusion for us in terms of stability,” Motaung said on BBK LIVE, as quoted by SuperSport TV’s Selebalo Phasha. “Coaches come with demands, these demands in the middle of the season can impact badly on the team,” he concluded. The pressure increased after interim coach Cavin Johnson started 2024 poorly. Chiefs delivered three goalless draws that included the 5-4 loss to Milford FC on penalties.
